Murder suspect killed in ‘gunfight’ in port city
A man was killed early today in what lawmen described as gunfight in Chattogram city’s Agrabad area.
The deceased was identified as Javed, 21, hailing from Cumilla, our local staff correspondent reports quoting police.
He was accused in the murder case of Jobo League man Mohiuddin Sohel, Ashikur Rahman, police’s assistant commissioner in Double Mooring Zone, said.
Double Mooring Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sajib Das led a crackdown in Jamburi Park area to capture Javed last midnight, he said.
Sensing police presence, Javed and his men opened fire at police forcing them to retaliate, the AC Ashikur Rahman said. “This triggered a gunfight.”
Later police recovered the bullet-hit body of Javed from the spot. He was declared dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Police also recovered one Chinese pistols, two light guns, and another gun from the spot.
The OC of Double Mooring Police Station was also allegedly hurt during the incident.
Javed was also accused in a case filed for assaulting a police official, Ashikur added.
