‘Malibagh bomb attack a conspiracy against cops’
The May 26 bomb attack on a police van in Dhaka’s Malibagh area was a “conspiracy” against police to turn them into a weak force, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said today.
A vested quarter has been conspiring against police personnel, who discharge their duties with professionalism and courage while handling any incident of terrorism, militancy and drugs, the DMP commissioner said.
He came up with the remark while talking to reporters after attending a traffic awareness programme at Gabtoli Bus Terminal.
A powerful bomb was used in the attack and the attackers targeted policemen, he said.
During the meeting, he said that the law enforcers have increased security at the key points of the capital and are ready to tackle any untoward situation.
Earlier on May 26, a bomb went off near a police pickup in the capital’s Malibagh intersection that injured two people, including a female police officer.
The explosion also caused head wounds to rickshaw puller Lal Miah, 50, he said. Both were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
