‘Mugger shot while attacking police in Shahbagh’
An alleged mugger sustained bullet injuries in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area as police fired gunshot after the lawmen “came under attack” early today.
The suspected mugger Masud, 35, who received a bullet beneath his left knee, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.
Tipped-off, three bike-riding criminals mugging people in the area, a police team signaled them to stop near the gate of Shaheed Zia Shishu Park around 3:00am, the OC said.
“The suspects tried to attack police brandishing machetes prompting the lawmen to fire gunshot in self-defence, leaving one of the suspects wounded,” Abul Hasan said.
However, the other two managed to flee the scene, he also said.
Police recovered the motorbike and the machetes from the spot.
