Murder attempt on Sarwar Ali: Four including mastermind arrested
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today arrested four people, including the mastermind, in connection with a case filed over the murder attempt on Liberation War Museum Trustee Dr Sarwar Ali.
A special team of PBI (North) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the prime accused Nazmul from Gazipur and three others from different parts of the country today, Banaj Kumar Majumdar, chief of PBI, told The Daily Star.
He declined to comment further and said they will hold a press briefing at the PBI headquarters tomorrow morning about the arrest.
The criminals attempted to kill Dr Sarwar Ali at his home in the city’s Uttara on the night of January 5.
Although Sarwar escaped unhurt, his wife Makhduma Nargis, daughter Sayma Ali, son-in-law Humayun Kabir and two of his neighbours sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Police found a schoolbag left behind by the criminals on the ground floor of the building. Seven machetes, a mobile phone set and an electric water heater were seized from the bag.
Sarwar filed a case with Uttara Paschim Police Station a day after the incident.
