Naimul Abrar’s Death: Prothom Alo editor gets bail from lower court
A Dhaka court today granted bail to Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman in a case filed over the death of Naimul Abrar Rahat, a student of Dhaka Residential Model College.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (in-charge) Md Kaysarul Islam passed the order upon a bond of Tk 2,000 with two guarantors after Matiur Rahman -- in presence of his lawyers -- surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.
The High Court on January 20 granted him bail for a period of four weeks and also directed him to appear before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka immediately after expiration of the period.
As per direction of the HC, Matiur Rahman surrendered before the court and sought bail, defence lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji told the court.
Abrar, a ninth-grader, was electrocuted during the anniversary programme of Prothom Alo's youth magazine Kishor Alo on November 1 last year.
His father, Mojibur Rahman, filed the case with the Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on November 6.
