New drug 'khat' seized again at Dhaka airport
Customs officials today again seized 140 kilogrammes of Khat, a "new psychoactive substance (NPS)", at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
A team of Dhaka Customs House with help of officials of National Security Intelligence (NSI) seized the drug from eight cartons at cargo unit of the airport, said Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Customs House.
The drug, that looks like green tea and is ingested by dissolving it in water, was brought to the country in a Jet Airways flight from India on September 9, the DC said.
The cartons were kept at the cargo unit upon suspicion after its arrival, and were opened today in presence of the officials of concerned authorities, the customs official said.
Earlier on August 31 and September 8, 460kg and 160kg consignment of similar substance were also seized respectively by the customs officials.
