All offices, including government, semi-government and private ones, reopened today after the vacation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.

Attendance at the Secretariat, the administrative hub of the country, was very thin as many officers and employees did not turn up.

The officials and employees were seen exchanging Eid greetings with their colleagues amid a festive mood.

The government and private offices, banks and other offices and business establishments went into holiday on Tuesday.

The normal schedule of office (9:00am to 5:00pm) resumed on Sunday as it was curtailed for the month of Ramadan.

With the city dwellers went to the native places to celebrate the occasion with their near and dear ones, the city streets became almost empty with very low traffic movement.

Dhaka-bound buses, trains and launches were overloaded on Saturday with people returning to with their families after celebrating Eid back in their home districts.

The journey of the holidaymakers was comfortable as there were fewer gridlocks and sufferings on the highways.

People complained of overcharging by CNG-run auto-rickshaws while returning to their residences in Dhaka. In many cases, the drivers reportedly demanded extra fare violating metre rate.

However, the roads in Dhaka are yet to see the usual traffic chaos.
