In Chittagong, with a fractured waist, Bulbul-e-Jannat, 73, was admitted to Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital on December 6, said her son Osman Chowdhury. Following deterioration of her condition, she was transferred to the ICU on Friday afternoon, he said.
Osman alleged that his mother bled to death in an hour as proper post-cannula removal procedure was not carried out.
Dr Nur Uddin Jahid, who was on duty in the ICU, told The Daily Star that the patient lost only 10ml to 20ml blood and she did not die due to bleeding. Jannat died from respiratory failure, he added. The Daily Star sought the contact numbers of the hospital officials concerned, but the request was declined by the receptionist.
