Petition seeks cancellation of Tabith’s candidature
A former Supreme Court judge today filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking cancellation of Tabith Awal’s candidature for concealing information in his affidavit about his property in Singapore.
Tabith is the BNP mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election scheduled to be held on February 1.
An ex-Judge of the Appellate Division, Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, submitted the petition asking the High Court for directives on the Election Commission to probe the allegations.
Tabith Awal and two others have a private company named NFM Energy Singapore Ltd worth USD 21 million in Singapore but he did not mention it in his affidavit, which is a violation, Justice Shamsuddin Choudhury told The Daily Star quoting the writ petition.
The former judge said he has authentic documents of Tabith Awal’s ownership of the company and its net worth.
Shamsuddin Chowdhury also submitted a written application to the EC for cancelling Tabith’s candidature but did not hear from them yet.
He said the HC may hold hearing on the writ petition tomorrow
