Provide adequate security to Mainul on way to court: HC
The High Court today directed the government to provide adequate security to Barrister Mainul Hosein at the time of being produced before the courts concerned in connection with cases against him.
The court also fixed Thursday for passing an order over the treatment for Mainul Hosein, his lawyer Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain told The Daily Star.
The bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabircame up with the orders during hearing two separate writ petitions filed by Mainul’s wife Saju Hossain on November 2.
In one petition, Saju challenged government's “failure” and “inaction” to provide adequate security to Mainul to prevent the recent attack on him at Rangpur court.
Saju in another petition sought an HC order on the authorities to admit Mainul, a former caretaker government adviser, to a specialised hospital in Dhaka, saying he is suffering from diabetes,heart and kidney ailments.
Barrister Mainul was arrested on October 22 in a case filed for defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti on a television talk-show.
During the hearing, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the HC that he will talk to the authorities concerned of the government to provide proper security to Mainul Hosein.
