Accused found dead in police custody

The hanging body of a youth, accused in a rape case, was found inside the lockup of Rupnagar Police Station in the capital yesterday morning.

The dead, day labourer Kawsar, 19, was handed over to police by locals around 11:30pm the night before and they found him hanged with his shirt, tied to the iron bars of the lockup, around 8:30am, claimed Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of the police station.

The OC also claimed that Kawsar was the only one in the lockup and the CCTV camera could not capture the incident due to power outage.

Kawsar was accused in a rape case filed by his neighbour, said police. 

The body of Kawsar was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue where his autopsy was performed. until 11:00pm last night, no one claimed the body.
