A woman was run over by a bus while she was getting down from the same bus in Dhaka’s Shantinagar area this morning.

Deceased Kaniz Fatema, 30, worked at a lab of Quantum Blood Bank at Shantinagar, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

Kaniz used to live with her husband Shafiqul Islam at Dania in the capital, he told The Daily Star.

The police official said Kaniz boarded a bus of “Al Makkah Paribahan” from her father’s residence in Mirpur in a bid to go her office in the morning.

While Kaniz was getting down from the bus around 9:00 am, she fell on the road as the bus started running before she got down from the bus, the police official said.

The victim sustained injuries critically as the vehicle ran over her legs, said Bachchu Mia.

Locals recused the victim and took her to the DMCH where she succumbed to her injuries at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital around 1:00 pm, Inspector Bachchu Mia said.

Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, Sentu Mia, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Paltan Police Station, told The Daily Star.

“We are trying to arrest the duo,” he added.
