RUET student beaten by ‘BCL men’, case filed
A student of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) today filed a case against 10 activists of the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League including its president and secretary for allegedly physically assaulting him.
The BCL men beat up Arnob Piyush Biswas, a student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of the university on Sunday noon, according to the case statement.
Arnob filed the attempt to murder case with Motihar Police Station at midnight today, accusing six named and three to four unnamed persons, said SM Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The named accused in the case are: Ruet BCL unit President Naim Rahman Nibir, its General Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Topu, and activists Chandan, Rakib Shahriar, Lasiur Rahman and Jahid Hasan.
In the case statement, victim Arnob said that he had brought out an anti-ragging rally in the campus on Friday afternoon. Some BCL leaders threatened him on that night over the issue.
Later, he was called to room 308 of Shaheed Zia hall on the university campus on Sunday. When he reached there, some 8-10 men started beating him with iron pipes and left him unconscious, according to the case statement.
Arnob’s friends later rescued him from the room and admitted him into Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
“We trying to arrest the accused persons as soon as possible,” OC Masud Parvez said.
