SCBA elections to be held between March 11-12
The two-day annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts, including that of its president and secretary, will be held on March 11 and 12.
A total of 7,581 lawyers have registered as voters in the country's prime bar association election, SCBA's Superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das told The Daily Star today.
A seven-member committee led by Advocate AY Masiuzzaman will conduct the election, he said.
SCBA sources said the main contest in the election would take place between the panels of ruling Awami League-backed Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel.
Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad has nominated Advocate AM Amin Uddin, incumbent president of the SCBA, and Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque as candidates for the posts of president and secretary.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel has finalised Advocate Zainul Abedin, a former SCBA president, and Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal as candidates for the posts of president and secretary.
