Students protest stale food at RU hall

Residential students of Syed Ameer Ali Hall at Rajshahi University demonstrated inside the hall yesterday in protest of the unhygienic and sub-standard food served in the dining hall.

Talking to The Daily Star, some agitators alleged that they are often served stale food and food mixed with insects.  

They claimed that despite repeated complaints, the authorities did not take any step to correct the situation.

Sources said some students were served with rotten potatoes and other vegetables yesterday.

Learning about the incident, some 200 students of the hall gathered there and began demonstrating.    

SM Mokhlesur Rahman, house tutor of the hall, rushed to the spot and assured the demonstrators of taking appropriate steps to rectify the situation.

However, Abul Hashem, hall dinning manager, denied the allegations and said some potatoes were rotten but those were not served to the students.

Contacted, Hall Provost Mustafizur Rahman said he was on leave and Mokhlesur Rahman would look into the matter.
