Teenage girl gang-raped in Kamrangirchar, 5 held

Police today claimed to have arrested five persons including four alleged rapists in connection with a case filed for gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl in Kamrangirchar area of Dhaka last night.

The arrestees are identified as Hasan, Sifat, Sabuj and Rony, aged around 18 while another one is their female friend, aged around 14, ABM Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar Police Station told The Daily Star.

A group of four people with the help of a female friend took the girl on the first floor of a two-storey under construction building in Rasulpur area and gang-raped her between 6:30pm and 8:00pm yesterday, the OC said.

Following a case lodged by the victim’s mother with the police station, police carried out raids at different parts in the area and arrested the five people for their alleged involvement in the rape incident, he said adding that all the accused are known to the victim.

The girl was admitted to One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he said.

A female friend was also made accused in the case as she allegedly assisted the rapists to take the girl to the building, said the OC.

The rape incident took place when a protest sparked on the Dhaka University campus following a rape incident of the university student in the capital’s Kurmitola area on January 5.
