Thailand is eager to work with Bangladesh in the field of cyber security regulation and policy.

Uttama Savanayana, minister of information and communication technology of Thailand said  this during a bilateral meeting with Tarana Halim, state minister for posts and telecommunications division of Bangladesh in Bangkok yesterday. The two ministers agreed to create a joint working group on telecommunications cooperation towards signing of a memorandum of understanding.

Dr Savanayana shared Thailand's plan for a digital economy up to village levels and smart phones for all the citizens. In response, Tarana said Bangladesh will work closely with Thailand in realising their common visions of a digital nation and universal access to mobile phones and internet.

Tarana invited Thai telecom sector investments in the infrastructural development of state-owned mobile phone service provider Teletalk, in the upgradation of existing telecom networks, and sharing of the best practices in women's access to mobile technology and reforms in cyber security regulation through technical cooperation.

"Bangladesh's developmental successes can be emulated regionally, especially in micro financing, financial inclusion and women's empowerment," praised Dr Savanayana.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand, Saida Muna Tasneem was present during the meeting.

During her two-day visit, Tarana met with the secretary general of Asia Pacific Telecomm in Bangkok and discussed a number of areas of cooperation including cyber security, special project on empowering women through ICT and hosting of upcoming 17th South Asian Telecommunications Regulations Council Meeting (SATRC-17) in Dhaka in October 2016.
