2 cops stabbed in Ctg
Two policemen sustained stab injuries after they reportedly came under attack while conducting a drive to confiscate the property of a fugitive accused in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram this noon.
Assistant Sub-inspectors (ASI) Pradip Chakraborty and Nurunnabi Tipu of Banshkhali Police Station were stabbed by the mother and villagers of the accused, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Police detained Shamsuzzahan Begum, 40, the mother of the fugitive accused, on charge of the assault on the lawmen, the OC said.
As per the court order, the police officials went on a drive to confiscate the property of one Jamir Uddin Kalu, an accused in a criminal case filed with Chandnaish Police Station.
The court directive came as the accused has been absconding for long, he also said.
"As the two police officials reached Kalu's residence in Jaldi Rungia Ghona area in the upazila around 12:30pm, the mother of the accused and other villagers attacked them with sharp weapons, leaving them injured," OC Kamal Hossain told The Daily Star.
ASI Pradip was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital while Nurunnabi has been admitted to Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex.
