2 killed, 6 hurt in Dhaka road accidents
Two persons were killed and six others were injured in separate road accidents in different areas of capital Dhaka today.
A youth was killed and two others were injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit their motorcycle from behind on Mayor Hanif Flyover in Tikatuli area this afternoon.
The incident took place around 2:00pm when three friends -- Rimon, 19, Shohag, 19, and Nasim, 19, -- were on a joy ride on Shohag’s motorcycle from Sheikhdi in Jatrabari on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports our staff correspondent.
The youths were thrown off the motorcycle when the auto-rickshaw hit it from behind, leaving them injured.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced Rimon dead around 3:00pm, said Abdul Khan, assistant sub-inspector of DMCH Police Outpost.
The two injured were being treated at the hospital, the official said, adding that the body was kept at the hospital’s morgue.
In another incident, a teenager was killed and another was injured as their motorcycle lost control and hit a road islandof Mayor Hanif Flyover in Sayedabad area around 2:15pm.
The deceased was identified as Reaz Ahmed, 18, was a resident of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj.
Reaz and his friend Tayibur Islam went for a ride on a motorcycle, ASI Abdul Khan said.
They were speeding down the slope of the flyover at Sayedabad when Tayibur, 18, lost control on the motorcycle and it hit a road island, leaving both of them injured, he added.
They were rushed to DMCH where doctors pronounced Reaz dead around 5:00pm, the official said.
Tayibur was undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
In another separate incident, three persons were injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw got crashed after being stuck between two competing buses in Dhaka’s Mirpur-11 around 1:00pm, said Kamrul Hassan, an official of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.
Two buses of Khaza Baba Paribahan and Paristhan Paribahan were competing on the road and as one of the buses tried to overtake the other, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw got stuck between the buses and got crashed, leaving its driver and two passengers injured, the official said.
The injured were taken to nearby hospital for treatment, he said, adding that their identities could not be known immediately.
Agitated locals beat up the driver of the Paristhan Paribahan bus and handed him over the law enforcers. They also set the bus on fire. Later, two units of firefighters from Mirpur fire service station doused the blaze, the official also said.
Driver of the other bus managed to flee, he added.
