1 held over Notre Dame College student murder
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members today detained a girl in connection with the murder of a Notre Dame College student.
Sabita was detained from the capital’s Mugda area last night, Bina Rani Das, assistant director of the Rab-3, told The Daily Star today.
Police on February 12 recovered the body of Yougen Hanasie Gonsalves, 22 from a flat in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh area. The victim’s body bore 15 stab marks.
Yougen Hanasie was a second-year degree student of Notre Dame College.
WHO IS SABITA?
After the incident, police collected footages from the CCTV footage of a nearby building.
One of the girls, clad in burka, was seen in the footages accompanying Yougen to the flat around 3:30pm on the day of the incident, said police.
A girl identifying herself as “Sabita” rented the flatand also paid Tk 5,000 in advance, Tabassum Mehjabin, the building owner, told The Daily Star on February 13.
Tabassum said that Sabitaon February 10 introduced Yougen to her as "brother" and said she wanted to move in with her family in February but it was being delayed for some family issues.
Before that, Sabita and another woman, who she said was her mother, brought some old furniture to the flat, Tabassum added.
Tabassum said Sabita and the girl seen in the CCTV camera are not the same person.
