‘Missing’ ministry officials surface in DB custody

The two Ministry of Education officials who went “missing” have resurfaced in the custody of detectives, apparently arrested over reasons yet not provided to the media.

Police this evening disclosed the arrests of Motaleb Hossain, personal officer to Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Md Nasiruddin, an upper division assistant (UDA) to the ministry, and Khaled Hassan Matin, owner of Lakehead Grammar School.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the trio are in detective custody. Among them, Nasiruddin was held with Tk 1.3 lakhs from Gulshan and the others were held upon obtaining information from him.

Nasiruddin was the first to “disappear”. He remained “missing” since last Thursday. A missing diary has been filed with Banani Police Station in this regard on Thursday night.

 

Motaleb was the second education ministry official to “disappear”. He went missing since yesterday afternoon after some men forced him into a microbus in Basila. A missing diary has been filed with Hazaribagh Police Station in this regard.

And, recently, Lakehead Grammer School was accused of having links to militancy. District officials had sealed off the school before the High Court ordered its reopening.

Meanwhile, the reason for detaining the trio have not been disclosed.
