Dhaka Airport: Passengers suffer due to workers' demo
Hundreds of passengers suffered at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka yesterday as a section of Biman Bangladesh Airlines workers abstained from work since morning, demanding regularisation of their jobs.
Interruption of ground handling operations following the work stoppage caused the woes for inbound and outbound passengers, said Group Captain Abdullah Farooq, director of the airport.
Members of Ansar, Armed Police Battalion and Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh were ordered to carry out the operations due to the work stoppage, he said.
Biman is responsible for ground handling operations at the airport, Farooq said.
Yet, loading and unloading operations were being hampered, he said.
However, the regular schedule of flights were not affected, he said, adding that around 200 domestic and international flights took off and landed at the airport.
Biman Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director AM Mosaddique Ahmed also acknowledged that the passengers were suffering.
