The pigeons of Mirpur “militant den”, at last, got their new home.

At least 43 pigeons of different species, which survived the blasts and firing during law enforcer’s raid, were handed over to the authorities of National Zoo by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Mirpur of Dhaka yesterday.

These birds including several hundred pigeons, owned by militant suspect Abdullah, were kept in cages on the top floor of the building, “Kamol Probha” at Darussalam area in the capital.

“Around 150 pigeons died, some of them flew away. The pigeons which were weak and unable to fly, we handed those over to the curator of the zoo as they can treat them in veterinary hospital,” Khandker Lutful Kabir, commanding officer of Rab-4 told The Daily Star today.

After an 88-hour-long raid on Friday, some 10 to 12 journalists visited the building in the afternoon.

The horror of that night was still haunting the innocent pigeons as they were looking traumatised and feared, this correspondent observed.

It was 10:00pm on September 5 when two massive bombs exploded on the fifth floor of the building, leaving seven people, including militant suspect Abdullah, dead.
