Prof Farzana appointed JU VC again
Prof Farzana Islam has been reappointed as the vice chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University for the next four years.
A teacher of anthropology department, Farzana is the first female VC of the country. She was appointed on March 2, 2014, for the first time.
Talking to The Daily Star, she said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday morning had congratulated her over the phone -- a decision that came 15 days before the expiry of her current tenure.
However, she said she was yet to receive any letter in this regard.
Meanwhile, a legal notice was served on Monday on the JU VC by senate member Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir, also a former VC of the university, asking her to call an emergency senate meeting within Thursday (yesterday).
"If the VC does not take any visible initiative within the stipulated time, we will file a writ petition…," the notice added.
Contacted, the JU VC said, "I have already sent my response in this regard through the university's law officer.”
Earlier, on February 5, around 40 senate members of the university issued a letter to the VC asking her to call an emergency senate meeting over the VC panel election.
