Police today pressed charges against two bus drivers in a case over the death of Rajib Hossain, a third-year student of Titumir College.

Rajib lost his right hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Sajan Paribahan, while they were trying to overtake each other in Bangla Motor area in Dhaka on April 3, 2018.

After two weeks in coma, Rajib died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 17.

Sub-Inspector Md Idris Ali of Shahbagh Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheets against the two -- BRTC bus driver Wahid Ali, 35, and Sajan Paribahan’s Khorshed, 50 -- to the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court of Dhaka.

The two accused are in jail since their arrest in April 2018.

The charges were brought under section 304 (B) of Bangladesh penal code, which grants imprisonment for three years if proved.

The charge sheet will be placed before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Eleas Miah today for its acceptance.

The High Court on June 20 the last year asked two bus companies -- Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation and Sajan Paribahan -- to pay in two months Tk 25 lakh each to Rajib’s brothers Mehedi Hasan Bappi, 16, and Abdulla Hridoy, 15.

In October 13 last year, the Supreme Court ordered the owner of Sajan Paribahan to give Tk 10 lakh in a month to Rajib’s brothers.
