Schoolgirl dies after falling from staircase in Dhaka

A nine-year-old schoolgirl died after falling from the staircase of a five-storey building in Moghbazar area of Dhaka today.

Deceased Ankhi Akhter was a class III student of Uttara Government Primary School in Ujirpur of Barisal and daughter of Abdul Mannan of the village, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, told The Daily Star.

Ankhi, who came to visit her relatives’ house in Peyarabag yesterday, fell down from the stair of the fourth floor around 3:00pm while she was getting down, he said.

Critically injured, the girl was rushed to the DMCH where doctors declared her dead.
