Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today says the patrons of Gulshan and Sholakia terrorist attacks have been identified. Star file photo.

The government has not placed Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, whose wife was killed last month in Chittagong, under scanner, the home minister said today.

“We never said anything as such,” Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said to inquiring reporters at the end of a programme held in Dhaka’s Osmani auditorium.

The relevance came in view of police quizzing Babul Akter after one of the arrestees allegedly linked the police official with the murder of his own wife in Chittagong last month.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) chief had earlier echoed similar when journalists inquired him about quizzing Babul, who is the plaintiff of the murder case.

Until now, six people have been detained in this connection and two among them were shown arrested. Those two said to have given confessional statements about involvement in the killing.

“Our diligent detectives are working to crack the case,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said in response to query on his opinion in this matter now. Earlier he had said the murder was a doing of the militants.

On June 5, three assailants stabbed and shot Mitu dead when she was taking her son to his school bus stop at GEC intersection in the port city.

Earlier today, two people, one allegedly the firearm supplier for the assassination mission of Mitu, were detained from Chittagong city.
