Spreading rumours: Patuakhali school teacher released after HC bail
A school teacher, who was arrested in a case filed for allegedly “spreading rumours” on Facebook during the recent student movement for safe roads, today got released from jail following a High Court order that granted her bail.
Nusrat Jahan Sonia, a school teacher in Patuakhali, was arrested on August 4 on charge of “spreading rumours” on social media about the student protests demanding safe roads.
Sonia, a pregnant woman, got released from jail today after the HC granted her ad-interim bail in connection with the case, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), a rights organisation which provided legal assistance to Sonia, said in a press release.
The HC also issued a rule asking the government to explain why Sonia should not be granted regular bail in the case, the release added.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Sonia seeking bail in the case, Deputy Attorney General Bishwojit Roy told The Daily Star.
Barrister Sara Hossain appeared for Sonia.
