US-Bangla pilot Abid Sultan’s wife on life support

The wife of Captain Abid Sultan, the pilot who died in the deadly crash of US-Bangla Airlines flight BS211 at Nepal airport on March 12, is on life support at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Afsana Khanam suffered a stroke at her Uttara residence around 4:00am yesterday.

The wife went into coma soon after doctors conducted the second surgery on her that ended at 4:00am today, Dr Uzzwal Kumar Mallick, head of department (ICU and HDU) of National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, told The Daily Star.

Nothing can be said before 72 hours of the operation, Dr Mallick said.

Abid Sultan and Afsana Khanam have one son, Tamjid, who is an O-Level student.

Pilot Abid Sultan and all four cabin crew members of the ill-fated US-Bangla flight died in the crash at Tribhuvan International Airport. The crash claimed the lives of 51 people, including 26 Bangladeshis.
