Wife set on fire after strangled to death, husband held
A woman was “strangled to death” and then set on fire allegedly by her husband in Mugda area of Dhaka today.
The victim was identified as Hashi Begum, 27, daughter of Sheikh Altaf from Parbatipur upazila in Dinajpur, police said.
The incident took place this morning at the first floor of a five-storey building in South Mugda over a conjugal feud, said Proloy Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station.
Hashi had been married to Kamol Hossain, 30, for eight months. She was previously married to one Sujon and they had a son together. Her son lived with her.
Her previous husband, Sujon, used to keep contact with her to stay in touch with their son, however, her present husband did not approve of it, police said.
This morning, the couple had a quarrel over this issue and at one stage of it Kamol strangled his wife to death, and then put her on fire to dispose of the body, OC Proloy said.
Neighbours informed police after hearing a scuffle and getting smell of burnt flesh. Police later recovered the body from the house.
Police also arrested Kamol in this connection.
Kamol has confessed to have committed the crime in primary interrogation, the police official also said.
A case has been lodged with the police station in this connection.
