Two real estate businessmen landed in jail today, a day after they were arrested on charge of raping a woman in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.

Police arrested them after the victim filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station yesterday.

Both Shakil Kamal Chowdhury, 52, and Mohiuddin Sikder, 50, are directors of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB).

In the case statement, the victim alleged that she was raped by the duo when she went to their office in Dhanmondi from her Adabar office around 3:30pm yesterday.

She stated that she got acquainted with Shakil through Facebook seven to eight months ago and Shakil told her to come to his office as she requested for a job recently.

Yesterday, she went to Shakil’s office and found them there. Both of them forcefully raped her, the 27-year-old woman alleged.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station said they produced Shakil and Mohiuddin before a Dhaka Court today but did not seek remand as both of them admitted to the crime.

REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Alamin confirmed that both the arrestees are directors of the organisation of real estate developers.

“REHAB has around 1,200 members and the organisation should not be held responsible for individual’s act,” he said.
