Home-based rapid Covid-19 testing kit to be available in India soon

The price of India's first home-based rapid antigen testing (RAT) kit for Covid-19 has been fixed at Rs 250 and will be available in chemist shops and online without prescription, the manufacturer has said.
The maker, Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions Limited, said this in a statement yesterday, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The testing will be monitored using Mylab's mobile phone application, the statement added.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Balram Bhargava told the media in New Delhi yesterday that they have so far approved just one home testing kit manufactured by Mylab and kits by three more companies are on the way and likely to get the approval within a week.
Bhargava said kits for home testing will be available in the market within 3-4 days.
"Home testing kits will be sold in chemist shops and all one needs to do is to download mobile app, register and read user manual before conducting the test yourself," the ICMR DG said.
"This ensures patient confidentiality, the data stored in secure server and linked with ICMR database," he added.
