Coronavirus pandemic: 3,000 female migrant returnees to get financial support
At least 3,000 female migrants who came home amid the coronavirus pandemic will receive special financial support from the government, Expatriates' Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad said today.
The support initiative to help the female returnees become self-dependent has been taken on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the minister said.
"The incentive has been provided to invest in profitable sectors for self-employment," he added.
The minister made the remarks after inaugurating a bank cheque distribution ceremony among the beneficiaries at the Probashi Kallyan Bhaban in the capital, said a press release.
Under the initiative taken by the Wage Earners' Welfare Board, some 70 female returnee migrants received bank cheque of Tk 20,000 each today, the release said.
Addressing as chief guest, Imran Ahmad said the special incentive will be given to selected returnees, based on their needs, from about 50,000 female migrants who came home amid the pandemic.
Primarily, the 3,000 beneficiaries will receive the support, he added.
The minister said they have taken other different initiatives for the wellbeing of migrant workers on the occasion of birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.
