12 Rohingyas found in Sunamganj, sent to Cox’s Bazar
Twelve Rohingya refugees were found in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj, around 600 kilometres from Cox's Bazar camps, yesterday.
Six of them had original Bangladeshi citizenship certificates, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station Nandan Kanti Dhar.
Police have seized the certificates and all of the Rohingyas were sent to Cox’s Bazar camps this morning, the OC said.
The Rohingyas, hailed from Mongdu in Myanmar’s Akidabad, reached Sunamganj three months ago and were sheltered by the locals for some time.
On information, police found them from the house of one Md Al Amin at Gutilagram in Badarghat union.
When contacted, Md Barkatullah Khan, superintendent of police in Sunamganj, told this correspondent, “We are investigating the matter that how they obtained the certificates”.
Legal action will be taken against those individuals if involvement found, the OC said.
