15 injured in CU BCL infighting
At least 15 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured when two rival groups locked into a clash over establishing supremacy on Chittagong University (CU) campus today.
All the injured BCL men were given primary treatment at the CU medical centre, our Chattogram correspondent report quoting police.
Abu Bakar Siddique, a Philosophy department student, loyal to BCL group Bijoy came under attack by a rival faction led by Rejaul Haque Rubel at the Shaheed Abur Rab hall’s playground this afternoon, said Akhteruzzaman, in-charge of the university unit police outpost.
“Following the incident, activists of both the groups equipped with lethal weapons locked into the clash and started hurling brickbats each other that left at least 15 BCL men injured,” the police official said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by deploying additional police forces on the campus, he said.
Police also picked up six BCL men in connection with the clash for interrogation.
Rejaul Haque Rubel blamed two former BCL leaders for their attempts to create an unrest situation on the university campus with the view to implement their personal agenda.
However, Bijoy group leader Abu Sayeed could not be reached over phone.
CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury told reporters that they would not spare anyone who will try to create an unrest situation on the university campus.
