16th amendment: SC verdict on appeal any day
The Supreme Court (SC) will deliver verdict any day on the appeal petition filed against the High Court (HC) judgement that scrapped the 16th amendment of the constitution.
The 16th amendment had empowered the parliament to remove the SC judges for incapacity or misbehavior.
A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha kept the petition as Curia advisari vult, a Latin term meaning verdict could be delivered anytime, after concluding hearing on the matter.

During today’s hearing, the chief justice said the SC judges will deliver the verdict with explanation of every relevant point of the constitution in this case.
Following a writ petition filed by nine SC lawyers, the HC on May 5 last year declared the amendment illegal. The government appealed against the verdict on January 4.
