16th amendment verdict: Govt to seek review
The government will file a review petition with the Supreme Court against its verdict that upheld the scrapping of 16th amendment of the constitution, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today.
The government received the certified copy of the SC verdict today, the law minister said while talking to reporters after a programme held in a Dhaka hotel.
The 16th amendment of the constitution had empowered the parliament to remove the Supreme Court judges for incapacity or misconduct, what was scrapped by the High Court.
Replying to a question, the law minister said Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha may go abroad tomorrow (Friday) and he will travel to Australia, Canada, USA and UK during his leave.
The law minister urged all not to do politics with the Chief Justice’s leave.
