2 'cattle thieves' killed in mob beating
Two suspected cattle lifters were killed in a mob beating in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur this morning.
The identities of the deceased, aged between 25 to 27, could not be known immediately, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-charge of Kaliakoir Police Station Md Alamgir Hossain Mozumdar.
The incident occurred when a group of "cattle lifters" allegedly stole six cows from Nowla village in the upazila and moved to the next village, Boriaboho, to steal cattle of one Samad Ali.
Sensing the presence of the thieves, the villagers announced it through loudspeakers at the nearby mosque and chased them, the police official said quoting locals.
The duo was caught and then beaten to death while the other thieves managed to flee the scene with the stolen cows in their truck, he added.
On information, police went to the spot around 11:00am and recovered the bodies which were then sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the police official said.
