2 SUST students suspended over ragging
The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Techonolgy(SUST) suspended two of its students over allegedly ragging freshers.
The university came up with the decision at a syndicate meeting today, Professor Dr Jahirul Islam, proctor of the university, told our Sylhet correspondent.
Another 19 students were also punished for different terms in connection with the ragging incident which took place on February 15, the proctor said.
The suspended students are Hamidur Rahman Rangan and Ashiq Ahmed Himel, second year first semester students of CEE.
On February 15 this year, six newly admitted students of CEE department were allegedly called at a students’ mess at Topobon area near the university by senior students of the department and they were ragged all night long, our correspondent reports.
They were forced to take indecent photos and the photos were shared to social media which were later deleted.
As the incident sparked protest, the university formed a probe body headed by the proctor and the body submitted a report accusing the 21 students.
