4 jailed for packaging expired food items
A mobile court today sentenced four persons to imprisonment for two years each for selling and storing expired food items at Lalbagh in Old Dhaka.
The court also seized the expired food products worth around Tk 55 lakh from three business establishments when they were repackaging the products -- powder milk, noodles and chips, said Magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who led the drive.
The date of the products imported from Malaysia and Thailand expired two years back, he said.
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-10 jointly conducted the 15-hour drive, which started early today.
