3 Rangamati shops fined for hiking price of essentials
Three businessmen in Rangamati were fined a total of Tk 11,000 today for selling essentials at higher rates than the market prices.
While visiting the shops at Reserve Bazar, Sohel Rana, an executive magistrate who is also leading one of the market monitoring teams, fined the businessmen, reports our staff correspondent.
Milon Das was fined Tk 5,000 for selling soyabean oil at Tk 100 instead of the market price of Tk 90.
Another businessman, Bidhan Nandi, was fined Tk 5,000 as he was selling diesel at Tk 78 instead of Tk 66.
The market monitoring team fined Abdul Kalam Tk 1,000 for selling a dozen of eggs at Tk 100 whereas the retail price is Tk 95.
However, our correspondents visiting the market areas with the market monitoring teams found that most shops were selling products at the prices set by the government.
Four market monitoring teams were working to check price hike in Rangamati where the market situation looks normal, the correspondent reports quoting Executive Majistrate Sohel Rana, who is leading one of the market monitoring teams.
The teams are also working undercover to ensure there is no price hike in the markets, said Rana.
