Vessel hits ferry: 3 vehicles sink in Pirojpur river
Three vehicles sank in the Kacha river of Pirojpur district after a sand carrying vessel collided with the only ferry plying on the Bekutia-Kumirmara route.
Meanwhile, after a 12-hour disruption following the incident, ferry services on the route resumed around 12:30pm after authorities brought another ferry from a nearby terminal.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, our Pirojpur correspondent reports quoting a local ferry terminal official.
Around 12:30am the ferry left Kumirmara side and after reaching the middle point of the river, a sand carrying coaster vessel coming from Kawkhali side of the district hit the ferry from the rear-end resulting in a crack on the bottom of the ferry, MdRafikul Islam, supervisor of Bekutia-Kumirmara ferry terminal told the correspondent.
Following the impact, the ferry plied swiftly to the Bekutia side. However, before reaching the bank, water entered into the ferry.
On information a rescue team of Fire Service and Civil Defence from Kawkhali and a team of coastguard from Barisal rushed to the spot.
