35 indicted in Narayanganj 7-murder cases
A Narayanganj court today indicted 35 people including prime accused Nur Hossain and three former Rab officials – Tareque Sayeed, Arif Hossain and Masud Rana – in two cases filed for killing seven people in the district in 2014.
District and Sessions Judge Syed Enayet Hossain fixed February 25 for starting the trial, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
Among the accused, 23 people including Nur Hossain and the three ex-Rab officials, who are now behind bars, were produced before the court today.
Seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker, were abducted from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on April 27 in 2014. Later, their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya River.
Nazrul's father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that Rab personnel abducted and killed Nazrul in exchange for Tk 6 crore from local ward councillor Nur Hossain.
Hossain, who fled to India following the murders, was arrested in Kolkata on June 14, 2015. He was found staying in India without valid documents. He was charged in the court on twin counts of illegal entry and trespassing into India.
On November 12, 2015, Indian government handed over Nur Hossain to Bangladesh.
