4 children washed away by floodwaters
The bodies of four children have been recovered after they were washed away by floodwaters in Ramu and Ukhiya upazilas of Cox’s Bazar today.
The deceased are: Samia Akter, 14, and Itun Barua, 13, of Sonaichhari upazila; Md Shahin, 10, and Md Fahim, 8, of Ramu upazila.
In Ukhiya, Samia, a student of class seven at Ayesha Siddika Girls’ Madrasa, was washed away on her way to home from her school yesterday, our local correspondent reports quoting Kay Kislu, an inspector (investigation) of the local police station.
Locals recovered her body around 12:30pm today, the police official said.
Meanwhile, the body of Itun was recovered this evening two days after he went missing in Haldiya Palang union parishad (UP) in the upazila.
Itun, son of Amulya Barua, was washed away by the onrush of floodwater while he was going to visit his aunt’s family in the area on Tuesday, said Md Shah Alam, chairman of the union parishad.
In Ramu, two siblings-- Shahin and Fahim--were washed away by the floodwaters in Sadar union this afternoon, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting M Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Ramu Police Station.
