5 dead in Ctg road accidents
Five people were killed and nine others critically injured in two separate road accidents in Chittagong this morning.
Among them, four were killed and nine others injured when a cement-laden truck ploughed through bystanders in Kanrnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge this morning.
The deceased were identified as Nasrin Begum, 35, Hasin Akter, 40, Shah Paran, 28, and Nurul Absar, 45, our Chittagong staff correspondent reports quoting police.
The driver of the truck lost control over the steering and ran over bystanders at a roundabout in the area of the port city around 11:00am, police said quoting witnesses.
The injured were admitted at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Their condition was critical, said Dr Faysal Kabir, an emergency medical officer of the hospital.
Police seized the vehicle immediately after the accident, Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukdar of CMCH Police Outpost told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, another man was killed as a covered van ran over him at city’s AK Khan Gate area while he was crossing the road around 8.00am, said ASI Alauddin.
The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 60, from Comilla.
