Munshiganj textile mill fire kills 6

At least six people were killed as a devastating fire broke out at a textile factory in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj this morning.

Three of the deceased were identified as Nazmul, 20, Israt, 18, and Ujjal, 20, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The fire ripped through Charmuktapur Ideal Textile Mill, which presumably originated at its godown around 9:45am, said Zainal Abedin, in-charge of Mukterpur River police camp.

It soon engulfed the entire mill, he said.

On information, four units of firefighters from Munshiganj and Narayanganj rushed to the spot and were trying to douse the blaze till last reported around 2:30pm.

During the rescue operations, firefighters recovered six bodies from the textile mill, Zainal Abedin said.

The police official said, the six might have died after inhaling toxic gas of the chemical.

Police also detained four people, including general manager of the mill, from the spot for interrogation.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of Munshiganj, Saila Farzana visited the spot and provided finacial assistance to the victims’ families for their burial.
