8 get life for killing 3 cops in Pabna
Eight people were given life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing three policemen in Bera upazila of Pabna on July 20, 2010.
The eight convicts are-- Zahurul Islam, Md Hashem alias Khokon alias Bachchu, Joson Mollah alias Jabed, Nijam Fakir, Md Rafiq, Aiub Ali, Sukur Ali Sarder and Zahangir Alam alias Kana Alam.
The court also fined them Tk 10, 000 each, in default of which they will have to spend one year more in the prison.
Justice Anup Kumar of the Speedy Trial Tribunal in Rajshahi gave the verdict today in presence of six, out of eight convicts, Public Prosecutor Entazul Haque told our Rajshahi Correspondent.
Zahurul Islam and Md Hashem remain absconding, he said.
Fifteen people were made accused in the case but four among the charge-sheeted accused were killed earlier in separate gunfights with the law enforcers while three others were acquitted of the charges today, he said.
On July 10, 2010, outlaws shot dead sub-inspector Md Kafil Uddin, nayek Abdul Wahed and constable Shafique Ahmed of Dhalarchar police camp at Daspara in Bera upazila in Pabna.
