8 jute mills in Khulna reopen partially
After a month of shutdown due to the coronavirus outbreak, eight state-run jute mills in the Khulna-Jashore industrial belt partially resumed activities today.
Thousands of workers resumed work at the mills at around 6:00am, our local correspondent reports.
Md Boniz Uddin Mia, coordinator of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation's Khulna region, said the eight mills partly reopened today following a decision of the corporation.
The decision was taken in order to supply jute bags to Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation and department of food, he said.
Only one mill -- Carpeting Jute Mill -- has been kept closed, he added.
According to mill authorities, the workers are being careful about maintaining distance at work.
There are around 30,000 workers in total in the nine jute mills in Khulna region.
