Admin association criticises arrest of UNO
Bangladesh Administrative Service Association has protested the lawsuit filed against an upazila officer for publishing a “distorted” photo of Bangabandhu in an invitation card.
The admin association termed the case “motivated” and “humiliating” and denounced it, said their press release issued in this regard yesterday. They demanded withdrawal of the case.
The association also decried the incident as an unprecedented instance in which an important public servant was harassed over a “baseless” allegation.

Tariq Salman, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Barguna Sadar, was sued after he printed the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, painted by a child, on an invitation card.
The case was readily accepted and he was arrested.
Obaidullah Saju, religious affairs secretary of Barisal District Awami League and president of Barisal Lawyers' Association, filed the Tk 5 crore deformation case last month.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself criticised the action and said the portrait and the UNO’s initiative had deserved recognition and reward.
