Appeal hearing on compensating Tareque’s family Oct 8
The Supreme Court today fixed October 8 for hearing an appeal filed challenging a High Court verdict that ordered paying Tk 4.61 crore compensation to the family of eminent filmmaker Tareque Masud over his death in a road accident around seven years ago.
Kashet Miah and Khokon Miah, owners of a bus of Chuadanga Deluxe Paribahan which caused the road accident, and its driver Jamir Hossain collectively filed the leave to appeal petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC verdict.
Yesterday, chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique held a brief hearing on the leave-to-appeal petition and sent the matter [petition] to the apex court’s full bench for its hearing on October 8.
The apex court chamber judge also fixed October 8 for hearing another leave to appeal petition filed by Tareque Masud’s family members seeking a directive on the insurance company concerned to give the total compensation money to his [Tareque Masud] family after collecting it from the owners and driver, Advocate Ramzan Ali Sikder, a lawyer for Tareque Masud’s family, told The Daily Star.
Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier, chief executive officer of ATN News and former journalism teacher at Dhaka University, and three others were also killed in the same accident in Manikganj on August 13, 2011.
On December 3 last year, the HC ordered paying Tk 4.61 crore compensation to the family of Tareque Masud for his death in the road accident
The court ordered bus driver Jamir Hossain to pay Tk 30 lakh, its insurer Reliance Insurance to pay Tk 80,000 and the bus owners to pay Tk 4.30 crore within three months after receiving its full judgment.
